The Perea preschool program is privately funded by Church Health Center and currently serves 128 at-risk students in North Memphis. The Perea program utilizes a High Scope emphasis classroom, which includes an active learning environment that introduces age appropriate curriculum content and positive conflict resolution. The program is a member of the Memphis Association for the Education of Young Children and partners with the Ready, Set, Grow! initiative at The University of Memphis. The Perea preschool program promotes early brain development by engaging parents and supporting the cognitive growth of young children. According to the Bracken School Readiness Assessment (BSRA), over 66% of children who enter the are delayed. Amazingly, almost 90% of graduating students score average or above on the BSRA! Perea preschool enjoys an in-house speech language pathologist and is able to provide vulnerable students with additional support outside regular classroom instruction if needed. Parental involvement is mandatory at Perea. They require 100% parent volunteer participation and host an active parent advisory board.
