Fox 13 Good Morning Memphis 'Special Needs Child Care With LEAD' 2/21/11

LEAD provides care to children age birth to 3 years and receives referrals from Tennessee Early Intervention System. LEAD receives funding from United Way, the state Department of Education and the Methodist Healthcare system

More than 500 children and their families receive early intervention services from LEAD each year!

In September 2010, LEAD closed the doors of its child care center that was located at Le Bonheur in order to expand its services. Now, by partnering with child care centers (like the Renaissance Center) LEAD can serve eight times the number of children than it could at its Le Bonheur-based center.

How does the inclusion support offered by LEAD support early brain development?

  1. Typically developing children at the centers learn how to interact with kids with specials needs
  2. Kids who have special needs are encouraged to do what their typically developing peers can do, thus enhancing their growth.
